About Capital Brief
Capital Brief is a business and politics focused publication that views the world through a new economy lens. It is targeted at the people who will shape this country in the coming decades: founders and executives who need capital to grow their businesses, the people who help them get it, investors who allocate it, and decision makers in the federal capital, Canberra.
Our values and newsroom standards
- We break news down, we don’t beat it up: We have no agenda beyond presenting fair and accurate journalism that is relevant to you.
- We’re pro-market and pro-competition but not blindly pro-business: We are unabashed enthusiasts for free market capitalism, but believe that for an economy to function properly business must be rigorously scrutinised by the media.
- We’re globally minded, not parochial: We are optimistic and curious about the world and we believe that Australia, one of the world’s most affluent countries and most stable democracies, has an important role to play in it.
- We operate with a founder mentality: We believe entrepreneurship is the most important driver of Australia’s future prosperity. As a founder-led news outlet, we understand the pressures involved in starting something new.
- We’re politically neutral, and belong to no tribe: We take no sides in partisan politics. And we will never tell our audience how to vote.
- We are climate aware: We believe the transition from fossil fuels to renewables and the race to net zero represent the biggest shift in the economy since Federation, with significant implications for politics and society.
- We embrace technology, but recognise its limitations and risks: Technology is the key driver of human progress and at the heart of everything we do, but we recognise that new technologies can lead to unpredictable risks and unintended consequences.
We demonstrate these values by:
- Giving reasonable opportunity for subjects of our news stories to provide comment before news is published.
- Seriously weighing the credibility and appropriateness of all sources of information. We only use anonymous sources when it is absolutely necessary and make reasonable efforts to explain why when we choose to do so.
- Swiftly and transparently correcting any errors we have made. To request a correction, please contact us.
- Investigating any reported breaches of our newsroom standards.
